Mary Chen and Chris Tobar will join us for the summer as interns. Mary is an undergrad student at Yale University majoring in Earth and Planetary Sciences. Chris is an undergrad student at California State University, Long Beach majoring in Computer Science. Both, Mary and Chris, are part of the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC)’s Supported Opportunities for Undergraduates and Researchers to Collaborate on Earthquake Science (SOURCES) program. SCEC SOURCES allows interns to gain valuable research experience and participate in the SCEC collaboratory, regardless of their geographic location or availability of local researches. During their internship, Mary and Chris will work on the full pipeline of ground motion simulations running on thousands of computer cores. The project is supervised jointly by the Scalable Data- and Compute-intensive Analyses lab at the University of Jena and the High Performance Geocomputing lab (HPGeoC) at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).
